School Camp…

Tomorrow we head off to Waitomo Caves for our school camp, the camera is packed, I have extra batteries and I made sure I have the SD card! I don’t think we will be allowed to take any photo’s when we are actually in the caves so here’s a little look…

Limestone_Layers_Geology

I have been delegated camp cook for the few days we are away, I sure hope I bought enough food! (being I’ve never done it before I’m a little worried)

And before I snuggle down for the night, I just wanted to say I have finished the Sudoku quilt.

So that’s 2 finishes for me this month!

I will share photo’s when I get back.

This one's for you Lis...

I have mentioned on an earlier post about my favourite LQS, when Lis came to visit earlier in the year she fell in love with this shop too! And now I can finally share it with you...http://www.cinnamonlodge.co.nz/index.asp

Here's a couple of sneak peaks...

And don't forget to check out her blog.
This is all new to her so head on over and leave some kind words of encouragement.

Friday Night Sew 'n' Tell

For the Friday Night Sew-In I made binding for my Sudoku Quilt...

I picked it up from my Long Arm Quilter during the week, I let her talk me into trying a new panto called splat(it kinda goes with the flowers) and I chose a green thread!  That is so out of my comfort zone, but I think I'm rather fond of it all the same. We had trouble finding a backing to match, we chose one that had most of the colours in it and I liked it but now that I've got it home I'm not so sure.
I will share a pic when I've sewn the binding down.

Bev from http://kaingahappenings.blogspot.com/ wrote on her blog the other day about being grateful and asked the question 'What are you grateful for?' It can sometimes be a hard one to answer, we have so many things to be grateful for and it is so easy to take things for granted.  Today I am thankful we live in a country where we are not persecuted for going to church, for a nice warm fire to snuggle up next to, for my family who are happy and healthy, for friends and relations who just drop by for a cuppa.

What are you grateful for?

I'm going to try...

I am a straight line quilter kind of girl, I have been to a couple of free motion classes and come home all inspired but I end up back in the straight line quilting rut, I am too scared to ruin a top I have spent ages on. I drool over all the fabulous quilting I see out there in blogland and I wanna be able to do that too!  I know nows probably not a great time of year to be considering a quilt-a-long (cows and calves and all that) but I think this may be just what I need.

free motion quilt along

I know even before I start that I wont keep up, but I'm going to try my best and just do what I can, when I can and just have fun! Here's the link if you're interested

I'm also going to try and join in the Friday Night Sew-In this Friday.

In the garden…

Things have finally settled down on the farm a bit(for now anyway) and I’m back to just feeding calves and the odd milking.

We’ve had a few gorgeous spring days this past week, so I have been pottering about outside.

This garden was overrun with weeds and potatoes, it’s the garden everyone walks past to get to the front door, so I have replanted it with flowers!

And I knew those old railway sleepers I’ve been holding onto would come in handy one day. I have used them as an edge for my herb garden which is just beneath my kitchen windows.

I have planted Rosemary, Parsley, Mint, Sage, three different types of Thyme and because the vege garden isn’t ready the garlic is along the back. And just in case you’re wondering that stuff around the parsley is egg shells. To keep the slugs and snails away, apparently it deters them because they don’t like crawling over the sharp edges and who can blame them but it must be most frustrating to see food and not be able to get at it.

Our soon to be, new parking/turning around area, using some old power poles we found on the farm as edging.

The vege garden is still in the preparation stage, that will be next weeks job.

DS1 and I are going to build some compost bins, I have had him doing some research on composting this week and plan to use all our resources, chicken poop, grass clippings, pony poop, scraps etc… Have you ever tried seaweed? We thought we’d give it a go! This is what I call hands on science.

I don’t intend to turn this into a gardening blog, but I will be posting updates of my garden here as a journal for myself.

Enjoy your weekend!

Way Cute...

You know how it is you start reading a blog and you see a link for another one you've never read, so you just pop over to investigate, and before you know it you've added another blog to your list!  That's what I did just now and had to share, check out these free cute stitcheries...

Down memory lane…

SDC11895

I can rarely walk past a bunch of Gerberas without thinking of my Granddad Knox. He would painstakingly grow them from seed. I have fond memories of him pottering about in his glass house made from old windows of all shapes, sizes and colours!

I have been pottering in my garden this week, after being inspired by this book…

Just here and there and slowly it is starting to take shape.  I have created a new garden just under the kitchen window for my herbs, boy have I missed my herb garden! And I have planted my half barrel with the White Gardenia I was given as a housewarming gift, surrounded by a pretty pink Lobelia…

Today I finished a small project, a gorgeous little stitchery…

I decided to make mine a little bigger, and made a small cushion…

I also made some gluten free shortbread, I am pleased with the way they turned out and they tasted pretty good too. DS2 was very happy with me! But I will have to hide them from the rest of the family.

Now you see me now you don’t…

SDC11790

Just a quick post to fill you in on my whereabouts…

I haven’t done a runner and deserted my blog, though it may certainly appear so, it’s just that I have been down on the farm. It’s calving time in our little corner of the world, and it’s my job to feed the calves, so far I have 50 babies to feed! That’s not counting all the bobby calves. Added to that is our worker has been out of action for the past week so I have had to take on his duties as well!  I have been working about a 10 hour day, then add household life to that and well you get the picture.  Now don’t get me wrong I’m not complaining I’m actually rather enjoying it, but I just can’t fit everything in, even though the alarm goes off at 5.15am!

SDC11797

And to top it all off the weather has turned horrible, we have had severe weather warnings, wet, windy, cold and just plain icky!  Imagine being born into that, poor little things.

So if I disappear again, I haven’t gone far, and I will be back again in a little bit…
