KHS at Nicky's

One of my favourite things about our KHS (Kindred Hearts Stitching Group) is visiting each others homes. I always go home inspired, so I thought I would share a few of my favourite pics of Nicky's home...

Her home is full of treasures, I want to take both of these cabinets home!

Her cross stitches are amazing, don't you just love the frame...

A gorgeous mannequin...

And as always the food was amazing, but you're going to have to take my word for it because I was too busy munching to take a photo. Thanks Nicky! See you girls next month for a big birthday!

Saturday Sewing

Just added the binding to this pretty dresden quilt, I'm a little embarrassed to admit but this quilt has been sitting around for almost 3 years waiting for this binding to be added. Not the best quality photo today as the weather is a little grey...

This is the first time I've done a scalloped border and I'm really pleased with how it's turned out so far. It took a little longer than normal binding and I found rather than pinning it into position to hand baste the binding on first before sewing it with my machine really helped. I'll post more photo's when it's done! My friend Nicole and her daughter are coming for dinner tonight we're having a PJ party, I hope to get a start on hand sewing it down then.

I thought I would leave you with a photo my daughter Olivia took of Poppy about to give her kisses

Horsey kisses are the sweetest😘

Sneak peek into my sewing room...

Hello, how's your day going?
Just thought I'd share a quick peek into what's been happening in my sewing room this week.
A pretty cushion.

And finally getting around to putting my granny square quilt together.

I originally planned on using white sashing but after a thorough search of my sewing room and lots of frustration at not being able to find the white fabric to match the white in the granny squares I gave in and tried to find something else in my stash that might work. Who knew there were so many different whites, and they all looked so noticeably different to the white in my blocks! So lesson learned... now I label all my whites (I write on the selvedge the name of the colour) and keep all the fabric together until the project is finished!

In the end I've used this sweet little ditzy print which I quite like, I hope it's not going to make the quilt look to busy though... because there is no way I am going to unpick it with all those bias edges!

A New Beginning...

 Hello??? Anybody out there...

Yes it's been a while I know... I'm not really sure if I have any blogging friends left or not but I have decided to give blogging another go.

My life has been one of constant storms in the last couple of years, in no way do I mean for this to be a pity party but more of an explanation as to the rather lengthy break in blogging! I just didn't have the mental space to deal with everything on my plate and some things just had to fall by the wayside for a while. Crafting had also gone on the back burner for over a year I hardly touched anything! But at the beginning of this year my fingers were itching to get back into it! And I've definitely gots lots to show for it in the coming posts, I've surprised myself with how much I've done 😎

You may have noticed the pinterest button on my sidebar, I may or may not have a little addiction...;oP I recently joined Instagram as well. Ah there is just soo much inspiration out there!

Better go get busy...

My crafting history…what’s yours?

I don’t know about you but I have always been into some sort of craft from a young age. My Mum sewed clothes for me and my sister and Mum had friends that were into making and selling their crafts and my Nana she made beautiful crochet blankets, so I have always been surrounded by crafty people.  But for me it all started when my Uncle died… and his girlfriend came to stay with us for a while. She taught me to embroider… we didn’t have a lot growing up so I would use whatever I could get my hands on including my Dad’s handkerchiefs! I used to take my projects to school in the winter time and remember other students sitting there watching me! I must have been quite the sight… I was probably only 7-8 years old. I have tried many crafts over the years, I went through the cross stitching phase and sewing pretty dresses for my girls, knitted lace coat hangers, I even had a go at macramé Lol

I still dabble in various crafts, but I think quilting is my favourite… :O)

This post was inspired by this article… Craft is cool again … But I think we already knew that?

I am interested to hear about your crafting adventures, when did you start? Just recently? Or has it always been a part of your life? And what craft would you like to try? I would really like to learn to crochet…

Just a few thoughts for a Sunday afternoon…

FNSI results…

I managed to get a good chunk of gardening done yesterday, it really needed some TLC! I have never planted Zinnias before so I gave them a go… I planted them along the edge of the vege garden to encourage the bees…

I will definitely be planting them next year… they are such happy flowers!

Last night I sewed on a really old project I dug out of the back of my wardrobe the other day, I am not going to go back and find out just how old it is, that could be embarrassing…;O) Originally I planned on making it into a quilt, but have decided instead to make it into a big floor cushion for Olivia…

I have a few more squares left over to make a smaller cushion and then I can be done with this project and have an empty box… to start another project of course…:o)

I tried a new recipe for dinner tonight, it’s really good…Sweet Potato and Cauliflower Soup I changed the recipe a little though, instead of water I used bacon stock(because I had some in the freezer) and added 2 carrots. I know it’s kinda weird having soup while the weather is still so warm but the evenings (and the mornings) are a bit cooler and it’s getting darker earlier, maybe I’m just ready for some cooler weather…

I’m going to head off now and see if there is any soup leftover…

Handmade by Heidi

The boys(with bikes) in my family left this morning for the Tussock Buster in Waiouru, so I have plans to garden and sew for the weekend…:O)

We have changes happening in our wee home come Monday that I need to prepare for(it includes shifting a garden!) exciting changes, especially for my two lovely daughters…it will mean a lot of work and some rearranging, and some sewing on my part… I’ll share soon…

Enjoy your weekend…
