A review…

I am back home again and it’s so nice to be home. It feels like I have been away for such a long time.

My Mum and I left early last Friday morning and drove to Hamilton for the Craft Fair. Leeanne from quiltmekiwi asked if I would give my thoughts on the fair, I think really the highlight of my trip was spending the time with my Mum…:O) The fair offered a variety of crafts which was great, I even bought a knitting pattern (more on that next post) The variety of quilt shops themselves was great too there seemed to be a little of everything… civil war, shabby, pretties, kids quilts, etc. I certainly come home with a mixed bag! The food was good too, we had crumbed fish and fries for lunch. I saw a number of ‘Naki’ girls there too, Claire, Nancy and a few others and let me tell you they were holding their own in the shopping department…;O)  It had been 4-5 years since we had visited and I don’t think it was as big as it was last time from memory.

But there was one down side for me, I found the majority of shoppers quite pushy and rude, very few used manners, I don’t mean to upset any one by this comment, maybe it was just me… maybe not… Ok enough said…

The photo’s in this post are just a few of my favourites from the quilt exhibition, some of you from across the ditch might even recognise a few of them.

After the fair Mum and I settled ourselves in our motel before heading off to Grandmothers Garden in Gordonton, a short drive from Hamilton. Hazel had made a yummy Tomato soup for her customers for tea, it was delicious and saved us a few extra dollars to spend on more fabric…:O)

Saturday morning we visited the local Spotlight store, where we just happened to spot a few of the ‘Naki’ girls… Then we started our journey home stopping in Te Kuiti, to visit my Great Aunty May(Mum’s Aunty) she is in a home but for 95 she is still quite quick with her sense of humour! Then we drove home through a deluge of rain most of the way over Mt Messenger and the Awakino Gorge, it was a slow trip home… After a quick cuppa with Mum I drove another hour home, and was in my bed very early!

Sunday after church I packed my bags again… this time for school camp. Thankfully camp was only about an hours drive from home, I had a cabin with two of the teachers, and no kids so I got a good nights sleep. Tuesday Stefan and I were supposed to swap places, but unfortunately our teacher aid had an accident and I was asked to take her to ED where we spent the rest of the day. She is home now but still suffering with severe concussion, and still in a lot of pain. I made it back home just in time to cook the other members of my family a late tea… Yesterday was spent trying to get my house back into some sort of order! Claire came to visit and bought lunch(thanks again Claire) and then Stefan, Michael and Olivia arrived home with more loads of washing!!!

Speaking of which I better go hang some more out…I’ll be back to show some of my goodies…

Blessings

Michelle

Interesting to hear of your outing up North, Michelle. So nice that you got to spend some time with your Mum. And it sounds like you haven't had a chance to take breathe since you got back... you'll be looking forward to the weekend!

The quilt show sounded great, and the pictures are amazing, esp. the one of the girls! Wow. Sounds like you've been so busy. Hope things slow down a bit for you soon. Welcome home! :)

Hello Michelle,

Thanks for sharing your thoughts and photo's of the quilt show. I haven't been to a show for quite a while. I found the same thing, you couldn't get to the stalls because of all the shoving etc.

Glad you enjoyed the time away with your Mum.

Happy days.

Hi Michelle, sounds like a whirl wind of a time!
Thanks for a the feed back. I have talked to a few that have been from up here in Northland, mixed experiences. Best get myself along one year to see for myself. Interesting about the manners, or lack of them as I have found that at Calico Xmas too.
Glad you are catching your breath....nothing like loads of washing to 'bring' us back home!!

Glad you enjoyed the fair and your time away in general. It's nice to have some quality time with your Mum too. Yes I'm afraid I have experienced those pushy other shoppers too which is a shame.

It's good to spend time with our mothers isn't it and it sounds as if you both had a good time, some of those quilts are lovely and I'm glad you managed a little shopping!
